The Crown Heights Medical Centre
Crown Heights Medical Centre, formerly known as Church Grange Surgery is a long established medical practice serving the residents of Basingstoke and its surrounding villages. We have relocated to new premises at Crown Heights, Basingstoke into modern, custom designed facilities. Crown Heights Medical Centre is situated on Alencon Link between the Railway and Bus Stations, we can be accessed by car, but car parking is extrmely limited on site and is only for up to one hour - we do have parking provided at Festival Place, which is a flat 50 metre walk across the footbridge. May we ask you to consider the elderly and disabled before parking on site unless you are very ill and feel that you cannot access our premises from Festival Place.
Our practice currently enjoys the support of 17 doctors and a full practice nursing team from 21 individual consulting rooms and 2 dedicated nursing suites. We offer a full range of primary care services and welcome new patients.
Antibiotics and the common cold
Despite what people might think and what we might want, antibiotics with not cure the common cold or cure viral illness. Visiting the doctor and asking for antibiotics to help with you a cold or flu like symptoms is more likely to hinder your recovery. For more information regarding how you can help yourself without antibiotics, please visit this link.
On-Line Patient Community
We are seeking to set up a virtual patient community, whereby we can engage with all members of the practice who wish to be involved in the management of our practice and not just the ones that visit the practice on a regular basis. So far we have over 100 members signed up to this venture, but we would like to include many more.
You may wish to know what is involved? Well not too much, but our aim is to involve you more in determining the direction that we are taking the practice, particularly in regards to what services we intend to offer for the future.
In the past, we have asked you to share with us the ideas that you have to develop new services. Based upon the feedback provided we have introduced a number of initiatives. Some of the issues you have raised and which we have taken action over are:
- · Additional car parking (bridge link to Festival Place)
- · On-line prescription requests (which I am aware that you have signed up to as this is where I obtained your email address from).
- · On-line appointments (where you can book your appointments on-line)
- · A text reminder service (which sends patients an appointment to remind them of their next appointment and provides them with a facility to cancel appointments by text if they wish)
- · A regular patient newsletter delivered to your email inbox (which you may already take advantage of)
We are also trying to introduce an automated telephone system where you can telephone the practice 365 days per year to make appointments: I realise that this will not suit all of our patients, but the existing staff will still be available to make appointments manually during normal working hours and we feel that this benefits those patients who want more access to appointments and should reduce the amount of telephone traffic to the practice. Before I spend a considerable amount of money on this service, it would help me to determine whether our patients would actually like this service
Might I ask you to complete a short survey comprising of 11 questions for us in regards to whether you would be prepared to join our on-line community, we promise that we will only contact you to send you:
- · a patient newsletter 4 times a year
- · Details of patient interest regarding such items as Holiday Opening Hours
- · Asking you to complete short surveys about the practice no more than 3 times a year, which you can simply ignore if you are not interested.
· Please follow this link to complete our survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RLRWRPC and join the Crown Heights Medical Centre virtual community today.
Seasonal Influenza Vaccinations
Our seasonal influenza vaccination programme commences from the 26th September 2011 where the at risk groups detailed are encouraged to make an appointment to be vaccinated.
Influenza vaccines is recommended for all people over 65 and for those people under 65 who have the following conditions:
- serious heart or chest complaints, including asthma,
- serious kidney or liver disease,
- diabetes,
- lowered immunity due to disease or treatment, or
- had a stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA).
Everyone in an at-risk group is eligible for a free flu vaccination. This is the best protection against the virus. Around four million people under 65 in England are in one of these high-risk categories, but only 45% of them had the flu jab in 2010.
Need a reminder or too busy to attend?
Our patient participation group has recommended that we start texting reminder notices to patients who have mobile telephone numbers to remind them of their next appointment.
How might it help you? You would receive a reminder before your appointment allowing you time to attend or if you need to cancel your appointment, provide you with a number to text us back to say that you can't make it.
We can also send you reminders if you are elligible for influenza vaccination, cervical smears, health checks or health warnings.
The service will be free, with the exception that you will have to pay a normal SMS charge if you text us back
We commit to ensure that we do not send you texts too often and will provide you with the opportunity to opt out of the service at any time if you do not like it.
Email us at hamp-pct.CrownHeightsInformation@nhs.net with details of your name, mobile telephone number and email address.

Are you a carer
Do you look after someone who is ill, frail, disabled or mentally ill? If so, you are a carer.
We are interested in identifying carers, especially those people who may be caring without help or support. We know that carers are often “hidden” looking after a family member or helping a friend or neighbour with day to day tasks and may not see themselves as a carer.
Want more help, then follow this link or through selecting the "Carers" home page from the right hand column.
Online appointments
Quick access to our online appointments system. Please note that this service is only available for those patients who are registered to receive NHS treatment. If you are registered to receive NHS treatment with the practice it is simple to enrol for this service. Why not enroll now and give it a try? You can still use the telephone or call in: it just offers you yet another option to make an appointment quickly and without having to make a telephoen call or visit the surgery.

The practice has added a number of links to the "NHS Choices" web site where a number of web based videos ('000 s) are hosted. These short, but informative clips provide a lot of useful information for patients regarding a variety of condition, too many to list here. Please take a look by selecting this link which takes you to the page, or selecting "Video Library" from the menu list on the right hand side of this page.
Out of Hours
Health Care is available from the practice Monday to Friday, but through an organisation called
Hantsdoc, we provide healthcare 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. If you require to see a doctor and the practice is closed, contact Hantsdoc: more details can be found on the "North Hampshire Urgent Care" website, of which Hantsdoc is part of.
You may also wish to be aware that there is a further facility in Basingstoke which offers primary care services throughout the year. The Hampshire Healthcare Centre offers a full general practice medical and dental service for patients from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. Services may be accessed with or without an appointment, whether you are registered at the centre or not.
If you need to see a healthcare professional, and Crown Heights Medical Centre is closed, you may wish to consider this service. Further details may be obtained through visiting their website.
Car Parking and Access
Car Parking is very limited with spaces made available in our underground car park for disabled patients and for those either staying for 15 minutes of less, or for dropping off patients. Details of how to access the practice are available within a printable guide as is a map detailing local car parks. There is ample parking in the adjacent town centre car parks as well as ready access to the main rail and bus stations which are within 400 metres distance. The practice is also on the Basingstoke Park and Ride route. For those patients who are able to access Basingstoke Community Transport, details of their rates and contact details are accessible here.
Are you utilising the full potential of the website? Well you may want to look around a little further as you can order your repeat prescriptions on-line and now you can book appointments on line too.
Crown Heights Medical Centre is a training practice.
Fully qualified doctors experienced in hospital medicine are usually attached to the practice for a year. If you agree they may video your consultation. We also teach medical students who, with your permission, may occasionally observe your consultation.
Guide dogs are welcome at the surgery.
Medical Representatives are welcome at the practice but unfortunately we have ceased offering the opportunity for guest speakers to attend our clinical meetings or for coffee mornings. Should you wish to market a product you should advise the practice manager and he will liaise with the doctors regarding whether they wish to meet with you individually to review your products.
