Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) is aware of nine cases of Legionnaires’ disease in English holiday makers associated with the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca since January 2012, in addition to four Spanish cases so far reported. Subsequently two of the English patients are reported to have died from their illness.
Outbreak of Salmonella Newport
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) is investigating an outbreak of a strain of Salmonella Newport infection among 30 people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland since the beginning of December 2011. Cases of illness caused by the same strain have been confirmed in Scotland, Ireland and Germany.

Whooping cough cases increase
Cases of whooping cough (pertussis) reported to the Health Protection Agency (HPA) in England and Wales have more than doubled from 421 cases in 2010 to 1040 in 2011. Increases in levels of whooping cough are seen every three to four years and figures in 2011 are in line with cases reported in the last peak year of 2008.

The Practice Nurses run clinics for diabetes, heart disease, asthma monitoring, weight checks, smears, blood pressure checks, flu clinics, travel advice and injections (Please allow 8 weeks before traveling to attend your first appointment), baby vaccinations, blood tests, contraception, dressings and various other treatments. Please let reception know what you are seeing the Practice Nurse for, so they can ensure that they allocate you enough time for your care to be carried out.

Our Practice Manager, Mr Stefan Morawiec, is responsible for the strategic management of Crown Heights Medical Centre and Lychpit branch surgery.
Mrs Janice Gower (f)
Mrs Janice Gower deals with the day-to-day management of Crown Heights Medical Centre together with a team of trained Receptionists, 4 Practice Nurses and a team of Secretaries.
Mr Mike Bruce A.I.B. (m)
Mike Bruce is the practice accountant and he manages all financial aspects of the practice.
Mr Chris Pollard MBA (m)
Chris Pollard is the IT manager who handles the information processes and reporting for the practice.
Reception
All of the reception, secretarial and nursing staff wear name badges.
Community Nurses
District Nurses visit those who are housebound through illness or disability. They can advise relatives and friends about caring for the elderly or infirm. There are no district nurses based on site, but they can be contacted on (01256) 338833.
Health Visitors
The Health Visitors are involved in promoting health for all the family, within the community. A Child Health Clinic is held weekly at Carnival Hall, Basingstoke. .
